Levi's Stadium Capacity: 49ers, Concerts and Soccer

Levi’s Stadium holds 68,500 spectators for a standard San Francisco 49ers game. The venue also describes itself as seating approximately 70,000 and expandable to 75,000 for selected events.

These figures describe different levels of precision and different configurations. For NFL comparisons, use 68,500. For a concert, soccer match or special event, use the live seating map.

Capacity and attendance are not interchangeable. A crowd can exceed the standard seat count when the field holds spectators, while a sellout can fall below it if staging or tournament operations block sections.

Why 68,500 and 70,000 both appear

Levi’s Stadium’s official ticket-and-suite page says it seats approximately 68,500. That is the established regular-season football number and the figure current Associated Press reporting uses.

A separate official design page says 70,000. It rounds the standard figure while summarizing the building’s scale. Rounding 68,500 to “approximately 70,000” is reasonable prose, but treating the two as different fixed configurations would be misleading.

For a table that ranks venues by seats, precision matters. Our largest NFL stadiums list therefore uses 68,500, not the rounded marketing number.

How the stadium expands to 75,000

The official venue says capacity can reach 75,000 for selected events, including Super Bowl 50. Expansion uses temporary, standing, field or otherwise event-specific positions rather than a hidden permanent upper deck.

Whether organizers can release all of that inventory depends on:

• Stage or field dimensions.
• Broadcast and camera platforms.
• Security and supporter-separation zones.
• Temporary seating approvals.
• Sightlines and blocked-view sections.
• Floor admission and emergency-exit plans.

The 75,000 figure is a design capability. It is not the number of tickets available for every Super Bowl, soccer match or concert.

49ers game capacity

The 49ers moved from Candlestick Park to Levi’s Stadium in 2014. A normal NFL game is organized around 68,500 seats, with more than two-thirds of them in an unusually large lower bowl.

The venue says the lower bowl contains more than 45,000 seats. This keeps many spectators closer to field level, while the west-side suite tower concentrates premium inventory vertically rather than wrapping it uniformly around the stadium.

Announced attendance can differ slightly from 68,500 because suites, standing guests, temporary holds and tickets distributed are counted under event rules. That does not reset the permanent capacity after every game.

World Cup 2026 capacity

FIFA renamed the venue San Francisco Bay Area Stadium during the 2026 World Cup, even though it is in Santa Clara. It hosted five group matches and one Round of 32 game.

FIFA listed the tournament capacity at 68,827. One early match drew an announced 67,966, close to that total despite visible empty seats. FIFA said official attendance measured scanned spectators within the stadium footprint; some ticketed fans could be in concourses rather than sitting in their assigned chairs.

Soccer capacity is not automatically lower than NFL capacity here. Brazil and Colombia drew 70,971 at the 2024 Copa América, showing that event overlays and released inventory can push a soccer crowd above the standard 49ers figure.

Why soccer configurations vary

Soccer uses the field and sideline space differently from American football. Organizers must account for wider touchlines, team benches, advertising boards, photographers, warm-up areas and safety run-offs.

Tournament production also occupies seating:

• Broadcast and commentary positions.
• Team and federation allocations.
• Hospitality and sponsor programs.
• Competition operations.
• Security buffers and restricted views.

A World Cup capacity is therefore a tournament configuration, not a permanent architectural measurement. The live event map is more useful to a ticket buyer than a generic 68,500 figure.

Levi’s Stadium concert capacity

Concert capacity changes with every production. An end-stage show blocks seats behind the stage; an in-the-round show can open the entire bowl and add thousands of people on the field.

Ed Sheeran’s 2023 Mathematics Tour stop became the stadium’s highest-attended event, at roughly 80,000. His in-the-round layout allowed spectators around the stage and used field admission.

Multi-night totals should not be confused with capacity. Two shows selling 55,000 each equal 110,000 tickets across the run, not a 110,000-person stadium.

Attendance records and reported numbers

WrestleMania 31 announced 76,976 in 2015, then a stadium record. Ed Sheeran later surpassed it. Entertainment attendance claims can use different counting rules, so the cleanest comparison is between clearly labeled single-event reports.

None of these figures changes the 49ers’ standard 68,500 capacity.

Seating levels, clubs and suites

Levi’s is asymmetrical. General seating fills a broad lower bowl and east-side upper decks, while a tall premium tower dominates the west sideline.

The main seating products include:

• 100 level: lower bowl around the field.
• 200 level: club and intermediate seating.
• 300 and 400 levels: upper inventory, concentrated on the east and end zones.
• Club seats: approximately 9,000, depending on the source date and product definition.
• Luxury suites: 174 private spaces in the venue’s official inventory.

Older venue materials refer to about 8,500 club seats, while the current ticket page says 9,000. That difference reflects revised inventory or rounding, not a major rebuild.

Best seats for football

For a complete tactical view, choose a sideline position near midfield. Lower seats offer player proximity, while a moderate elevation makes both end zones and coverage schemes easier to follow.

The west side provides more shade because of the suite tower. East-side seats face prolonged direct afternoon sun, which can be uncomfortable during early-season games. A lower price on the east may reflect that exposure rather than a poor view.

Upper central seats are farther away but still see the full field. End-zone locations deliver an excellent look at plays approaching one goal line and limited depth at the other.

Best seats for concerts and soccer

For concerts, the stage map overrides football conventions. A shaded west-side club seat may sit behind an end-stage production, while a normally less desirable end zone can face it directly.

Floor seats provide proximity but flat sightlines. Elevated lower-bowl seating often gives a clearer view of the entire production. Check limited-view notices for sound towers, camera platforms and stage hardware.

For soccer, seats near halfway provide the most balanced tactical view. Match-specific supporter sections and segregation zones can change which blocks are available.

Sun and weather exposure

Levi’s has no conventional roof. The west tower shades sections beneath and near it, while the east stands receive direct sun for much of an afternoon event.

Santa Clara can be considerably warmer and sunnier than San Francisco, especially in late summer. The regional team name can lead visitors to plan for coastal fog when they actually need water, sunscreen and light clothing.

Shade shifts by month and kickoff time. Use a current sun map or recent event photos rather than assuming every west seat stays shaded all day.

Levi’s sits near the middle of the league by standard seats. Its roughly $1.3 billion cost puts it much higher in the most expensive NFL stadiums ranking than capacity alone would suggest.

Location, transit and parking

Levi’s Stadium is at 4900 Marie P. DeBartolo Way in Santa Clara, next to the Great America theme park. It is not in San Francisco; central San Francisco is roughly 40 miles away by road.

VTA light rail and event trains provide alternatives to driving. Parking and traffic routes change with the event, and World Cup rules differed from 49ers games—including restrictions on ordinary NFL tailgating.

Check the gate and parking or transit plan before arrival. The large lower bowl and asymmetrical tower can make a wrong-side entry a long walk.

Accessibility planning

Accessible seating and companion locations are distributed across levels and price categories. Availability depends on the event configuration, so a platform used for football may be withheld or reclassified for a concert.

Request assistance early and use the live accessible seating map. Sun exposure, walking distance and elevator access can be as important as the sightline for guests with mobility or health needs.
